On Saturday, May 14, the East of 5th District and Historic Rapid City are leading two walking tours of the historic buildings east of 5th avenue in Rapid City.
The first guided tour will start at 9:00 am from the Pure Bean Coffee Shop at the Fairmont Creamery Mall at 201 Main Street, with another guided tour beginning at 4:00 pm.
Each tour will be lead by a guide with knowledge of the history of the original town-site and the buildings around the east of 5th district.
If a self-guided tour is more to your liking, there will be brochures that will lead you through the district available at the Pure Bean Coffee Shop.
The East of 5th District in Downtown Rapid City is a community-led, community-driven nonprofit built on the idea that when we exchange ideas, share resources and strengthen partnerships among one another, communities flourish.
The association celebrates and promotes the unique character of our East of 5th neighborhood, and provides a forum for conversations and activities that promote the vitality of our creative, innovative and progressive community.
The Historic Rapid City believes that our historic buildings and landmarks are more than just tangible reminders of our past: they are our heritage. They represent chapters in our city’s history. Through respect, dedication, and commitment to our community and it’s history we can maintain their place in our future; because once they are gone, they are gone forever.
Historic Rapid City is dedicated to the preservation of Rapid City’s historic sites, landmarks, and oral history so that generations to come will have the past from which to learn and draw inspiration.
