Dr. Kathy Miller, Komen Scholar, will discuss aspects of survivorship for those living with breast cancer through her work in metastatic research. Patients frequently report ‘fatigue’ as a consequence of breast cancer therapy, but the true impact of various cancer treatments on patient’s daily activities and physical fitness had not been measured. Using state of the art technology, Dr. Miller and her team measured the impact of various treatments including surgery and radiation, anti-estrogen drugs, and chemotherapy during the first year after diagnosis. She will discuss those findings and how patients and practitioners can improve their quality of life.
